在另类摇滚乐队中，"碎南瓜"是支成功的典型.他们将前卫摇滚、重金属、哥特摇滚、朋克、迷幻摇滚的元素进行混合，创造出独有特色的音乐。 主间吉他/主唱/词曲作者BILLY CORGAN (比利.科根)是一位职业爵士吉他手的儿子，他喜欢"低级戏法"（Cheap Trick）和"黑色安息日"（Black Sabbath）也喜欢朋克精神，他想把朋克音乐的粗糙声响与动听的旋律结合起来。 父母离异后，19岁的科根来到佛罗里达，在没有寻求到发展后，于1988年回到芝加哥，并结识吉他手JAMES IHA(詹姆期.伊哈)和贝司手D'ARCY WERTZKY(达西.雷茨基)成立乐队取名"碎南瓜"。 1990年乐队进棚录制第一张专辑《GLSH》，于1991年夏天发行并卖出40万张。此后，乐队进行了1年的巡演，并且知名度不断上升。在93年出版专辑《SIAMESE DREAM》后，乐队真正的一举成名，专辑进入排行榜第10名。其中的单曲《CHERUDROCK》(小天使摇滚)成为当代的热门歌曲。 专辑《MELLON COLLIE AND THE INFINITE SADNESS》是张长度相于4张常规专辑的双CD唱片。也是乐队最畅销的专辑。同时它最大的成功是成为排行榜冠军专辑。1996年的巡演中键盘手在曼哈顿死于海洛因过量，鼓手也被乐队开除。1997年初，乐队结束了巡演，并为电影《蝙蝠侠和罗宾》录了两首歌，同时他们获得格莱美奖7项提名。 2000年8月乐队传来消息，称乐队的创作思路已走到尽头，并在2000年巡演后宣告解散。 2006年，乐队重新复合，并宣布于2007年7月发行新专辑。(转滴）
